Getting Started

1. Download K-Tuner
Downloadable K-Tuner installation package is found in Download section of this site.

2. Install K-Tuner
K-Tuner package is a Zip:ed file, so you will need an unzip utility to open it.

After unzipping the file you will find MoreKTuner.msi installation package on your disk. Double click the package and follow the instructions.

After installation K-Tuner should be available in your host application's (e.g. Sonar) plug-in list.

3. Before starting
If you are using Sonar as a host application, ensure that Input Monitoring is activated. Setting is found in Options-Audio-Input Monitoring menu.

4. Start K-Tuner
Add K-Tuner to your audio track and set it to Record mode.

Note! If you have K-Tuner attached to a stereo track, ensure that your instrument is plugged in left channel. K-Tuner does not read right channel when using stereo input.

Play a note with your instrument. If everything is OK, you should see gauge needle moving.

Tuning Your Instrument

Tuning your instrument
The higher your input signal is, the better K-Tuner works. If you are tuning an acoustic instrument with a microphone, try to place the instrument close to mic and avoid extra noise.

Try to get as clean note as you can. When picking a string of your instrument, you may get better results if you damp resonance of other strings. You can do this e.g. by pressing softly other strings with your free fingers.

Pick a string or blow your whistle. K-Tuner seeks the closest musical note and the meter needle moves to a position that indicates distance from a pure note. The distance is presented as "cents" - 50 cents representing mid point between two cromatic notes.

Tune your instrument and keep playing the note until the meter needle is as close to 0 cents as possible.

Using lock/release buttons
Lock and release buttons are purposed for setting guitar to standard E-A-D-G-B-E tuning. They may be usefull when your guitar is completele out of tune, e.g. when tuning new, replaced strings.

Press a button representing the string that you want to tune. Blue led starts blinking.

Follow the led arrows. They will tell you tuning direction (left->down, right->up).

Keep tuning your instrument until meter needle moves. This indicates that you are now in correct note range. Keep on tuning until the needle sets to 0 cents and both arrows are bright yellow.
